Architectural Historian & Contemporary Urbanist
Pilar Maria Guerrieri is a historian and architectural critic as well as a contemporary urbanist, with an academic and professional career rich in international experience and significant contributions to the study of urban evolution, particularly in European and Asian cities.
She earned her PhD in Architectural Composition, History, and Theory at the Politecnico di Milano, in collaboration with Westminster University, London, and the Indian Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage, Delhi. Pilar is currently a Researcher at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico di Milano. She has collaborated with several international academic institutions in urban history and architecture, serves on the research board of the International University of Rabat, Morocco, is a member of the UNESCO UNITWIN Chair in Urban and Territorial Planning for Sustainable Local Development at the University of Ferrara, a member of the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development, Delhi, and is part of the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Planning.
Her research focuses on the analysis of urban and architectural transformations in rapidly evolving cities, with particular attention to contemporary megacities. She currently investigates aspects of urban well-being, both from a historical perspective and in relation to contemporary environmental stressors, such as climate change and pollution, and their impact on urbanization.
Through her work, she explores the relationship between cities, people, and the environment, offering critical insights into contemporary urban transformations. Within the MAMELI project, she will contribute her expertise in urban studies.
